Nickelodeon Children’s Day Promo

Nickelodeon India wanted to send out wishes to all its little viewers on Children’s Day. It was a simple yet challenging request of creating a 15-second promo, that was evocative of the innate innocence and cuteness of children.

The Concept

Baal Diwal

The idea involved a play on the Hindi language translation of Children’s Day—‘Baal Diwas’. How, one may wonder? Well, another meaning for ‘baal’ in Hindi is ‘hair’. The concept was envisaged applying this pun, through character sketches of children with distinguishing hairstyles—a spiky, a scruffy, a nerdy, a curly, a tidy, and a messy. Kids with distinct personalities, but sharing a common disposition—a wide-eyed innocence!

My Contribution

A seamless line-up

Developed character designs for six children-faces to bring out variant personalities through their hairstyles. Created a cartoony character animation for these in 2D. Used a bright color palette and peculiar actions such as giggles, exuberant laughters, and even tongue-poking to make a cute, relatable promo for children.
