Nickelodeon Samosa Spoof Promo

"Motu's Taste Test"

Nickelodeon’s slapstick sitcom Motu Patlu reached out for a witty promo design. Motu, the plump one from the two titular characters, is extremely fond of the popular Indian snack, “samosa”. The 30-second advert aimed to underscore Motu’s love for samosas and also serve as a parody on the central character from another show, using a light-hearted, fun rendition.

The Concept

A creative spoof

The promo opened with samosa snacks which not only have names, but limbs, facial features, and better yet, personalities. The healthy samosa was a macho-guy, showboating his muscles. The oily one was dripping with oil; unhealthy yet tempting. Whereas the low-fat one was a zero-figured selfie-lover. The fourth guy was the rendition of the so-called “simple” character, who was the most regular of them all. This appetising range of options would make choosing a complicated affair, wouldn’t it? Well, not for Motu! Knowing his love for samosas, he would simply want to savour them all!

My Contribution

2-Dimensional Art

Developed 2D character designs befitting four personality types. Used 2D animation to convincingly personify each character traits – confident, clumsy, self-obsessed, nonchalant. The animation consisted of exaggerated acting, snappy actions and some rather trending, agile dance moves, that lend itself well into a cute, comical advert.
