A Comic-style Story

Contribution: Visualisation | Storyboard | Design Aesthetics | 2D Animation

The brief

A simple beginning

One of the top four largest commercial banks of Ireland, had a request to develop an online training on ‘Performance Management’. This was one of the mandatory trainings that would be taken by each of their employees. Hence, they wanted to introduce it by giving an overview of the significance of everyday objective planning, but in a way that was different and unusual from a standard content depiction.

The solution

A story

The concept was established through a story with concurrent scenarios of two characters, each about to take a vacation. The premise depicted both men aiming for the same objective, but having contrary planning approaches. The story unfolded to bring out some obvious, with some underlying significances of planning, which helped audiences to draw parallels into their lives.

The product

The classic comic-style

As opposed to the narrative approach, this story was purely to be driven by visuals. Therefore, the traditional comic style was the chosen medium for its depiction – a medium that conveyed scenes through bold-lined illustrations, coupled with succinct descriptions and dialogues.

My contribution

Script to screen

Developed a stylised look-and-feel with character designs that complemented the storytelling, while the use of snappy animation added life to the scenes – all of this within a quick end-to-end turnaround time of five days.
